Many Muslim Reformers come from these minority sects, @Imamofpeace from Shia Islam, @MaajidNawaz and @AsraNomani from Sufi backgrounds.
These minority sects aim to reinterpret or reform mainstream Islam- they are killed for their efforts.

Even though we disagree w all their ideologies (to different degrees), I still think dissent is good-and I support the ppl trying to poke holes and criticize and question their religion. Only good things can come from encouraging critical thought. /2
These dissenters can shake the solid land that the majority confidently stand on, and I’m all for that. /3
I came from the majority sect. I know how confidently they stand. I know how sure they are of their supremacy. Even the smallest rumble to their sure-footed stance is a good thing. I think #ExMuslims are doing the most rumbling, but I support all those w the same goals. /4
I thought I read somewhere that Maajid Nawaz was from a Sunni Muslim background, not Sufi. Maybe my memory fails me?
Well, Sufis think of themselves as Sunni, but Sunnis don’t accept them as such. Kind of like Ahmadis or Ismailis identify as Muslims, but the majority of Muslims do not recognize them as Muslim.
