This is how it has to happen. Women need to support each other. Even in the most misogynistic of cultures, men cannot subjugate us without our consent and active participation.

But it’s not just #FGM-it’s child marriage, honor violence, forced hijab etc etc. Yes, men are involved in all those things. But at many points there are women involved too. If those women refused to go along w whatever the crime, it would make it a lot harder for the men. /2
My life would have been phenomenally different if I had a mother who stood up for me. But instead, like most mothers in those areas, she was an active participant in perpetuating the misogyny. Rather than stopping the cycle, she chose to pass it down to the next generation. /3
