Because I grew up Muslim, I’m acutely aware of ‘the patriarchy’, obviously.
But even though the stench was strongest then, there are still clear wafts of it in my current life. It’s easier to fight, of course, but it’s still sad and gross to see/experience.

This is very true. I truly believe that women cannot be oppressed without their consent. And in a lot of cases, without them being active participants in oppressing their daughters/ fellow women.
