Many ppl are surprised that Muslim women FIGHT against wearing the #hijab
They’ve been fed lies that all Muslim women love it and find it empowering
Why would they?
Would you?
Muslim women are just humans. Theyre not a different species. No human wants to be told what to wear.https://twitter.com/masihpooyan/status/946948206772006912 …

It's often an "environmental" issue: in Muslim countries, the hijab et al, are symbols of collective control of the individual; in the West, adult women wearing these articles are expressing their identity. The key difference is that the latter group can choose to remove them.

I was born and raised in the West (and there are thousands like me) and I was forced to wear it and I could not take it off. A girl in Canada was killed for not wearing it. It’s an instrument of control everywhere.https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.theglobeandmail.com/amp/news/toronto/father-brother-plead-guilty-to-so-called-honour-killing/article1367964/ …

Sure, there are women that choose to wear the hijab because they want to please Allah. There are also women that choose to cut off their daughter’s clitoris to please Allah. Just because they’re choosing it-doesn’t make it any less heinous.

It is one thing to choose for yourself, secure in a free society where you can choose otherwise at your leisure. It is quite another to choose for another person. Of course, there can be malign influence at work on adults.

But how does an adult woman choosing a hijab for herself, assuming that there is no threat of violence involved, compare to an adult woman mutilating a child? Or an adult murdering a child?

Because adult women don’t generally choose it for themselves. Just as adult women don’t generally choose to be mutilated. Here’s a clip of an interview where a Saudi woman and I explain the modesty culture:https://youtu.be/0wJaWjCAkgs

Fair enough, but what about the religious clothing of other religions? Typically, the greatest boost to organized religion is when the state suppresses it.
