OF COURSE Israel makes mistakes. Name one country that doesn’t. But they’re doing leaps and bounds better than their neighbors in the Middle East. /4
Excellent thread. One concern about Israel is be that, when fighting monsters, it’s difficult not to become a monster. (To be clear “monsters” in this case is violent militants that won’t ever be placated by a political solution. It is emphatically not Muslims or Islam).
This is why most Muslim majority countries sway between Islamic governments or dictators. It takes a monster to stop a monster.
I am a humanist as well and I disagree with supporting Israel. For starters, to state they are doing leaps and bounds better than their neighbours means nothing. The problem with Israel is that it is founded on Judaism. /1
No country should be founded for or by a specific religion. That would be inherently discriminatory. Israel as a state has continued to ignore the international court and continue to build settlements on the land that literally does not belong to them /2
