Its an old tradition. It still happens in rural areas, but not big cities anymore. Im from Egypt and we all know about it. Nawal Al Saadawi writes about this in her novels.

But it is no longer a tradition. I wasn’t raised in a time where it happened. Using an old tradition to shame a culture, isn’t a smart tactic.
