When I was in Jeddah in 2001, I was issued a brown (to indicate non-muslim) iqama (internal passport). The level of discrimination I witnessed as a result of this was ridiculous.

E.g., I walked into the Saudi-American Bank in Sep to open an account. Before setting a date for an appt, the Saudi banker asked to see my iqama. As soon as I pulled it out of my pocket, he immediately informed me that the next available date was Dec 25. I told him to forget it.
