I agree there are extremes, Yas. For example, working class white girls get raped on an industrial scale by Muslims. And some Muslims are laughed at for running on a treadmill dressed in a garbage sack. Swings and roundabouts.
Why are ppl obsessed w extremes? Today I’ve dealt w ppl fetishizing the hijab and ppl making fun of hijabis. There is a VERY LARGE middle ground in between.

I genuinely think that until Muslims can comfortably be laughed at, and also laugh at themselves, they will not integrate. The UK in particular has a v. strong tradition of self-deprecating humour. Every other demographic can take a joke.

Making fun (without being spiteful to individuals) is a good way to bring attention to the ludicrousness of these garments. That is the middle ground. We can also acknowledge and protest the misogyny. We can tackle this backwardness from all angles.

I oppose Islam's purity/modesty culture. It is misogynistic. The dress deserves to be mocked as do the fanatics insisting it is obligatory or forcing it on women and girls. I also try to not lose sight of the people trapped under that clothing. Real women and girls, not shadows.
