I would concur it is a dumb comment and I don't think most Peterson supporters think he's a prophet. They just think that most of the time - and yes, operative word being most here - his level of intellectualism is far beyond that of most public figured. And they're not wrong.

I think it was also an issue with New Athiests when it came to how they viewed Harris, Hitchens and Dawkins. They also had some awfully cringey foot in mouth moments as well when it related to feminism.
