Does this concept of ideas ≠ people apply to all ideologies-or just Islam? Challenge Nazism. Dont demonize Nazis <--does that sound right?https://twitter.com/aliamjadrizvi/status/897841889667420160 …

This is where the term Islamist comes in handy. Analogy could be... Nazi = Islamist German = Muslim It avoids equating Nazis & Muslims

This doesn't work because German is an immutable ethnicity vs Muslim is an ideology. I'm an ex-Muslim. I can't become an ex-Egyptian.

The analogy problem is that "Islam" is a broad church that ranges from liberal secular Muslims to fascist Muslims. Nazi is a narrow church.

"Nazi" should be put analogous to a specific sect like "Salafi Muslim". "Person with a political opinion" would be analogous to "Muslim".

I was a Salafi Muslim and I didn't want to hurt anyone or for Islam to rule the earth etc

I'm not sure how broad or narrow it is, tbh...I'm going to ask @SavedByReason on the podcast to discuss

Yes. There's a difference between "Nazi" and "Neo-Nazi" of course. The latter less centrally defined, may have a greater breadth of views.
