One of the most debilitating things I was told as a child was 'Your whole life was written by Allah before you were born'.

Then depression took him and his favourite bible verse made no sense anymore. I was very angry. Was this the plan God had?

And attempts to explain it all felt very empty, detached, cruel even- because even in the face of death the faith, the ideology was king.

I knew that they would slander my friend, or invalidate my experiences for the sake of the ideology and that was cruel to me.

And even then- in the face of this sociopathic dedication to the faith, they still wouldn't accept it was an ideology.
