Some of my most religious South Asian relatives both in Pakistan & here (v similar to those shown in the show) don't wear hijab.

Whaaaat? That's super weird. What makes them religious? Are you just calling them religious cuz they're more religious than other relatives?

It's still common among South Asians. V religious, praying 5+ times, reading Quran daily at dawn but hijab only during religious activities.

Yes. Though it has gotten a lot more common in the last ten years. In the 90s it certainly wasn't. It was more of an Arab thing.

All Muslim countries are more conservative today, universally. The whole niqabgate in Canada was led by a Pakistani woman.

Oh I'm not saying there are no niqabis there. There's been a lot of Arabization of Pakistani, Indonesian, Turkish Muslims recently for sure.
