I met a lovely, very secular Sunni from Algeria who insisted that this violent interpretation is not in fact inherently Sunni, but Wahhabi.

I skimmed, and it's generally on the right track except for calling it a 'sect' of Islam. It's not. It's simply a literal interpretation.
