I've been a Muslim for 20 years sis. My lifetime experience as a Muslim trumps the little weekend reading you did. And I read Reza Aslan's book. Reza is a joke. Muslims don't like him. Ex-Muslims don't like him. His beliefs are unislamic.

This is a quote from him: "Let me be clear, I am Muslim not because I think Islam is "truer" than other religions (it isn't), but because Islam provides me with the "language" I feel most comfortable with in expressing my faith."

That’s the best way to think of religion, in my opinion.

Yeah, if only the rest of the 1.8 billion Muslims were agnostic theists like Reza.

But unfortunately, most of them take their faith seriously and believe they'll go to hell if they don't believe in all the things listed in my pinned thread.

And, unfortunately, Sharia in govt prevents ppl like Reza from living their best life. He can be whoever he wants to be because he’s not living in a Muslim majority country that dictates his actions and ability to think freely etc. He has nonMuslims to thank for his freedom.

Isn’t that the fault of the individuals in the government and not Islam?

The individuals in the government are following Sharia. They didn’t invent these laws. They are following the laws of the religion.

Except for the fact that there is no one definitive version of Sharia as it is based on interpretation

Sharia comes from Quran and Hadith. Scholars and Sharia experts spend their lives studying the scriptures before it is codified into law. Are you suggesting they’re all wrong? That you and Reza have a better understanding of Islam? That’s quite an arrogant assertion.

Perhaps, Emma, it is you who is misinformed. Arabic is my first language and Ive read the Quran more times than I can count. I’ve read all the Hadith I could stomach(theyre quite abhorrent). It doesn’t take a genius to understand words on a pg. If you read, you’ll also understand

If you’re literate enough to understand this tweet and to understand that there is essentially one way to interpret what I’ve written here, then you’re literate enough to read the Quran and to understand that there is essentially one way to interpret what is written there.
