Believing every immigrant needs to share Canada's shared values is not racist any more than it is racist to expect immigrants to follow the laws of the land. Nor is it some far right dog whistle for prejudice...

Everyone should read the Swiss citizenship rules. Even the cantons (provinces or states) have the right to question applicants for things like having Swiss friends & work colleagues who deem them part of the community & if they are ok with Swiss traditions, politics and history.

True, but there have been sexual assault court cases where refugees have gone free in Europe because they claimed ignorance of the law and cultural differences. This step can help alleviate the credibility of this defense.
