I don't get how Muslims read the Quran and feel spiritually uplifted. Even if you read it in a language that you understand, how can you take comfort from the Quran, when it talks about your rewards in one verse and about torturing non-believers in the next.
I was a kid when Cat Stevens converted. This was the convo between me and my mom:
Me: How?
Mom: He read the Quran
Me: HOW????
Reading the Quran is what made me ExMuslim

Most Muslims I know just learn to read the Quran whithout actually understanding it. They’re just taught to blindly read Arabic. I know people who have memorised it but wouldn’t be able to tell you what any of it actually meant.

for me it was being taught to fear god. I couldn’t understand why a merciful god would want to be feared. I also didn’t like being told what I could and couldn’t do

I’ve read the Koran. it’s hard work ..I Ve heard if you sing some of it in Arabic it’s a nice tune, I really find it amazing why anyone would follow this stuff unless one is indoctrinated ..born into it ...some kind of brain wash .Don’t think many read it not start to finish
