My brother, who happens to be the de facto head of our miserable family, told me that his son doesn’t pray and he’s fine with it because prayer is between him and god, yet he’d never allow a girl to take off her hijab because it’s between her and the society.

So “prayer” which is one of the five pillars of Islam doesn’t matter to him as much as a “tradition” which has questionable grounds in his “faith”.

I know of an atheist Pakistani gay 'ex-muslim' man married to an atheist white man, living in Berlin for more than a decade. He saw two muslim women in head scarf, having beer in a bar in Berlin. Boy, I have never seen him more furious. "How could they insult Islam?" He said.
