I just had that conversation with someone yesterday: she was arguing about how Western society appropriated Islamic numbers and the work of Islamic scientists... I had to point out these mathematicians and numbers were Arabs who lived centuries before Muhammad showed up.

Yes. And they took the numbers from their travels to India.

I go to an Antiochian Orthodox (mostly Arab) church in Oklahoma. The confusion is real. I had a relative (by marriage) ask me if I went "to that Muslim church"

These groupings & falsehoods are vital to divide & control individuals. It's the whole point and the biggest damage of Identity Politics. Group thinking leads to tribalism, tribalism leads to concentration of power, concentration of power leads to maintaining power at all costs.

I think people get confused because the Islamic holy books are written in Arabic.

To be fair, Islamic culture at its root is northern Arabic (or Nabatean) culture. Islam is a snapshot of Mohammads Arabian tribal beliefs and influences at the time he was alive. The spread of Islam is, in a way the spread of 8th C Arabian beliefs. The Muslim world is Arabised.

And it‘s surprising to many that there are more Muslims in the Asia-Pacific country of Indonesia than anywhere else.
