Absolutely, humans in general are capable of unspeakable acts of inhumanity. Certain groups are pointed out because of the belief that these acts are justified in faith. It is not justified, it is not acceptable and it most certainly won't be tolerated.

I worked in Kuwait for about a year & it's pretty common to see a grown man smack a kid across the face (esp if the kid is a boy) if he slips and falls down. Yep, there are assholes everywhere but i think that kind of behaviour is somehow normalized in more patriarchal societies

Exactly. Some people always seem to have the need to prove another group is somehow innately worse. An *idea* or belief system can be worse, but people are people, they come in all types everywhere.
