Your story is so important. “I was the embodiment of an extremist Muslim. To see someone like me change so resolutely to a person who is in many ways the complete antithesis of who I was, speaks to the power of human resilience.” Incredible.

This was fun to read. Sometimes, I ask myself "what was I thinking when I was a Muslim?". And I honestly don't remember what was so good about Islam. I mean my environment was definitely not as extreme as yours. We didn't hate Jews for example, but still what was I thinking?

Were any of us thinking though? We were indoctrinated from birth. I never thought about it growing up. And once I did start to actually think, I left the religion soon after.

I hope that your article is not only one of the most read, but also one of the most understood. My dear naive and confused West needs people with your clarity.
