But I'm simply saying that it's OK to criticise ideas, beliefs and behaviours. I do it all the time. But a small majority of racists DO use it to justify their bigotry. They muddy the water.
I agree w you that they’re a relatively SMALL group in comparison to those of us who speak up because we actually care about these issues. When you make assumptions that ppl who speak up are bigots...you scare well-meaning ppl from speaking up. That’s the danger.
But Yasmine, when we criticize the burqa, & lefties reply "ok but Christian misogyny", we get annoyed too. Because A, we already criticize Christianity, & B, its about the burqa right now. Same with Ricki condemning Spain's treatment of bulls, & people replying "ok but Islam tho"
Yeah. I think it’s all a big misunderstanding here. The problem is whataboutery from bigots on one side and regressives on the other. That’s how I read it.
I am pretty sure you are misreading it, Yasmine, there are just countless people who criticize me for not criticizing Muslims like I would criticize Hindus and vice versa. Sometimes they just want to point out that you are being biased towards the religion or community they hate.
