      *If* the "distancing" is a prelude to working on the problems, reforming, dealing with all aspects of the religion, a lot of good can be done. *If* the distancing is a prelude to 'we're not Islamists, so nothing to see here," that's a problem.

      Right, but the former doesn’t require distancing-the latter does. Regardless, it’s dishonest. There’s no religion called Islamism. No holy book. No prophet. It is not a thing. It’s called Islam, and it has many problems including the call to create a caliphate.

          Because this concept of ‘Islamism’ IS a problem within Islam. It’s a distinction without a difference. It’s like calling the issues with homophobia in Islam Islmaogayism then claiming that there’s no problem w Islam, the problem is actually Islamogayism 😄

          doesn't "militant", "radical", or "extremist" Islam have to be drafted in to try to express the same point? isn't the job of reforming Muslims generally made tougher, there being no Islam/Islamism distinction? why does no distinction help w/ addressing the religion's issues? 2
