White people cannot reasonably be expected to take responsibility for white supremacists. Muslims cannot reasonably be expected to take responsibility for Islamists. Trans people cannot reasonably be expected to take responsibility for Jessica Yaniv.

Im consistent in that I disagree w all the above. It is our responsibility to criticize and try to correct the wrongs in our communities...otherwise, what’s the alternative? We all turn a blind eye and say ‘not my problem’? In Canada today there’s very loud condemnation 1

This is my stance to. Like it or not people unrelated to the crime would be held accountable. Just look at Germany post WW2. Most of these people actually didn't murder anyone.

I'd say the guilt is the failure to object. This is why Holocaust deniers are condemned. It is a part of mechanism that enables crimes. When it comes to muslims the denial is still very strong.

Perhaps impolite, but An expectation that your friend would condemn Yanif is reasonable, imho. I would expect condemnation to be more probable by far, regardless of the nature of your friend.

I won't expect friends to condemn, because I know they do. However, I expect politicians to be so. I'm so disappointed with
@IlhanMN. I see politicians as spokespersons.2 replies 1 retweet 2 likes -

Coming from a Muslim community, I think we have a different perspective. Since 9/11 we’re asked to condemn issues in our community. It has caused Muslims to have this knee jerk ‘it’s not my responsibility!’ reaction...and it’s a problem because, well, who’s responsibility is it?

I’m happy to see many Muslims rising up within their communities all over the world and speaking up against extremism. It’s hard to do. But it’s absolutely necessary. We can’t all just say ‘not my problem’ and leave it to continue to burn.
