I won't expect friends to condemn, because I know they do. However, I expect politicians to be so. I'm so disappointed with @IlhanMN. I see politicians as spokespersons.
Coming from a Muslim community, I think we have a different perspective. Since 9/11 we’re asked to condemn issues in our community. It has caused Muslims to have this knee jerk ‘it’s not my responsibility!’ reaction...and it’s a problem because, well, who’s responsibility is it?
I’m happy to see many Muslims rising up within their communities all over the world and speaking up against extremism. It’s hard to do. But it’s absolutely necessary. We can’t all just say ‘not my problem’ and leave it to continue to burn.
