White people cannot reasonably be expected to take responsibility for white supremacists. Muslims cannot reasonably be expected to take responsibility for Islamists. Trans people cannot reasonably be expected to take responsibility for Jessica Yaniv.

Im consistent in that I disagree w all the above. It is our responsibility to criticize and try to correct the wrongs in our communities...otherwise, what’s the alternative? We all turn a blind eye and say ‘not my problem’? In Canada today there’s very loud condemnation 1

Of a man who verbally attacked two women and a child because apparently he didn’t like that they were speaking Arabic. All Canadians feel responsible that we have to nip that in the bud and not let it go undeterred. As an ExMuslim, I feel a responsibility towards my community 2

so I speak out against execution of apostates, homophobia, gender inequality etc in Muslim communities. And I’m eternally grateful for Muslim ppl doing the work of changing hearts and minds from the inside. It is our responsibility to clean up our communities. 3

White ppl cant refrain from fighting white supremacism because they say ‘it’s not my community’—because obviously ppl in the white supremacist community have no desire to fight it. I don’t think anyone should stay quiet when they see injustice anywhere, but esp w/in their comm.

Is that like the equivalent of Muslims not confronting extremism within Islam because they don't consider extremist Muslims to be truly a part of Islam? Whereas in both cases, the reasonable party is claiming an absence of responsibility because of a lack of consistent ideology?

Kind of. The significant difference being race vs ideology. Muslims have a closer more immediate responsibility as it’s just variations of the same ideology...whereas ‘white’ is such a huge all encompassing term that does not denote any alignment of ideology.
