Contemporaries often scoff at the idea that Islam today can reform towards liberal secularism. That’s because they’re unaware that right up until the 1980s Soviet-Afghan war, this is the how things were headed. Nasser was perhaps the most popular leader in modern Arab historyhttps://twitter.com/BeforeSharia/status/999559641653800960 …

People seem to forget 1,400 yrs of Islamic history. What we see today isn’t a “new” Islam. It’s just islam. Sometimes the beast may slumber but it always awakes & when it does it is angry.

Muslims will never change their religion. Those who loosely practice Islam or cherryoicking aren't Muslims. The Quran is absolute and doesn't need to be changes to fit anyone's agenda. You either follow it or not. YOU CAN'T CHANGE IT.

I don’t remember seeing hijab a lot in the 80’s even in Muslim countries. The radicalization of Muslims and non Muslims is a fact. Now we see veiled and radical Muslims even in the west.

This is how Christianity moved away from the inquisition. The literalism was rejected. Still remained in the book, yet was not adhered to. Islam needs a tipping point again, where more non-literalists are heard than hardliners. (Ayaan in Heretic talks of 5 ways to reform muslims)

This seems just semantic, would you argue that Christianity did not change over the course of the reformation over over the course of the enlightenment? If we define religion only as scripture I fear commentors will spend their lives chasing shadows
