Great to hear that you're having
@YasMohammedxx, she's the best! And please do make sure you ask her about the conundrum we face with discussing problematic aspects of Islam, such as hijab, without contributing to anti-Muslim bigotry. It's something that we think about alot.1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -
I personally wore the hijab for 10 years & my mum wears the Niqaab (face veil). We've both faced extensive aggression/abuse as a result (my mum more so) so I definitely sympathise with the issue of anti-Muslim bigotry.

What I will say is that our critisism of Islam usually centers around it's impact on Muslims themselves & a consideration of Muslims as a victim of an oppressive ideology. Therefore, our relationship with Muslims is one of empathy & hope for improved quality of life.

Those that piggy back off our critisisms with a more sinister intention have no regard for Muslims as people. They are just using us an excuse to voice pre-existing prejudices that position themselves as the victims of Muslims.

To use your example, if we critisise hijab as a violation of women's rights, it doesn't make sense to then further victimise these women by ripping their hijab off. There's clearly different motivations at play here & I think they'd be behaving the same way without us.

If anything, our critisisms are even more necessary so that bigots don't monopolise the conversation. We need to show the difference between valid concerns about the doctrine & unadulterated prejudice. And I think that difference is clear to those paying attention.
