I think some are eager to misunderstand. Others are so keyed up that any/every "hot button" issue spins them into the red zone. And still others have dogmatic rules they expect others to follow in the conversations that matter.

My favorite is the cookie-cutter bloviations about "ALL!" All Republicans are racist. All Christians are stupid. All who support/oppose X are evil. Nobody's interested in the complex shades of ideas, how they're formed, and why they're held.

I don't consider socialism is horrible in itself. Soviet socialism is not the only form of socialism.
