      Yes, and totally unacceptable. Letters of recommendation do take considerable time to write, but it’s part of the job of being a professor.

      Fwiw, this looks like a hoax to me. The email is addressed “Hi Syed” not “Hi Faisal”. He could be teeeting under a different name than he goes by in real life but... 1/

          Although I did Google and didn’t turn up anyone on LinkedIn with the last name of Watts who teaches at UCR. I did find a Watt but can’t imagine she’d be misspelling her own name.
