From what I'm reading seems like it is.. I've found info about ihtifalat taklif (ceremonies of coming of age) in Iran and it's also practiced in Lebanon.. I'm glad I posted that bc I was being biased in my essay ..!

Yeah check our Dawoodi bohoras. They circumcise at age 7-9 and then hijab when they get their periods is mandatory.

I think it was very cultural or family specific. But announcing womanhood was common, giving sadka or just having sweets to celebrate. Or it's just my dad
