For me it was just I wore the hijab and that was life. Got my periods. My dad called his family and told them I was a woman and it was so embarrassing. I think he gave some money to charity and got sweets. I was annoyed, nothing fun about cramps and blood yo.
From what I'm reading seems like it is.. I've found info about ihtifalat taklif (ceremonies of coming of age) in Iran and it's also practiced in Lebanon.. I'm glad I posted that bc I was being biased in my essay ..!
Yeah check our Dawoodi bohoras. They circumcise at age 7-9 and then hijab when they get their periods is mandatory.
I think it was very cultural or family specific. But announcing womanhood was common, giving sadka or just having sweets to celebrate.
