If a white South African had been killed, would it be ok to show solidarity by doing something that shows solidarity w apartheid? What a ridiculous statement Supporting racial apartheid is never ok. Supporting gender apartheid is never ok. 3

Typical demonstration of politicians' inability to admit a mistake. She could have done both, simply by stepping back and reconsider. Also, why the display of support? Was the assumption everyone stood behind the killer otherwise?

I tend to give Ardern the benefit of the doubt here. I suspect she really wasn't consciously aware of,or thinking about, the oppressive aspect of hijabs, but rather trying to show sympathy and solidarity w/ the Muslim community and this was a way of doing so physically, visually.
