She presumes too much and too little. She thinks of other cultures as organic, wholesome, enclaves of oneness. She cannot handle the issue of minorities of minorities. She cannot look at the dark origins of cultures. She patronizes them by assuming they have no negatives.
Does she think we are sub-human? That we are some other species? Why wouldn’t women all over the world all want freedom?? Does she think only women in the West strive for autonomy? ...but she also underestimates cultures. She sees 'culture' as a thing Johnny Foreigner has. For the civilised West it is something to dabble in, to be amused about: Chinese tea or Indian naans. Culture is a cute artefact of the past. The West has no culture in her eyes.

30 years ago in college I did an internship at the UN and someone suggested I compare media coverage of the UN decade on women. It started with US women telling everyone what to think and ended the same way. Nothing has changed.
