Our book of the month for #WomensHistoryMonth is "Under My Hijab" by Hena Khan. This is the story of a young girl who observes how six different women in her life wear hijabs, while dreaming of her future & how she will express herself through her hijab.http://j.mp/2XJfBXY

I have never realized how widely varied personal concepts of a single word could be until now. My understanding of modesty is positive: a calm grace in who and what you are that doesn't seek adoration for either beauty or intellect, but not to force people to hide in any way.

Modesty culture is similar to rape culture. It’s a mindset that puts the onus on the woman to cover herself in order to not get raped. It’s victim blaming. It’s an absolutely disgusting mindset that should NEVER be endorsed by AD fucking L

The ADL, ACLU & SPLC are now completely politically motivated like the media. They stupidly believe the enemy of my enemy is my friend which they will learn is devastatingly wrong much too late.

The problem with ‘modesty culture’: What is modest? Just skin? What kind of skin? How much skin? And why is modesty always applied to women? It’s a nonsense word. Immodest might be a mini-skirt, but sports shorts and a sports (crop) top are fine.

If you are going to support Muslim women, support the ones who are fighting to go uncovered. And the ones who want to move around without the male guardians. And don’t let their daughters to be GM’ed.

At least the ADL are honest enough to tag the book under 'Gender & Sexism'.

Modesty culture, totally a misnomer. One can be modest without wearing a constraining covering over them. I don't wear skimpy clothing, that's not my style. I'm modest, without having to wear an oppressive covering.

This has always puzzled me. Progressives deem conservative orthodoxy to be empowering for "exotic" cultures but repugnant for whitey? Makes zero sense.
