It’s not exclusive to religion. You’re right. However, the problem is that Allah has sanctioned wife beating in Quran 4:34. So while societies and cultures can evolve and change-the literal word of Allah is absolute. It is religiously sanctioned abuse.
That same verse states that men can control their wives. So yes, religion is the issue here. A religion that allows abusive men free reign to abuse their wives.pic.twitter.com/qnV6Y85Ng0

In my experience, men rely on other men to tell them what to do. That includes whatever so-called holy writings say. The Christians are no different. Men can stop telling other men to be assholes. That would be nice.

It would be nice. But at the end of the day, a mere man’s words are irrelevant in superseding the divine word from an all powerful being.
