Yes. Having Xtians in positions of power in the US helped them gradually learn that in a democracy, the will of the people drives their policies, not their faith. It was key to implementing secularism. Muslims need that & Omar's apology is evidence that public pressure works. /1
It's important for Muslim activists in the West to learn how to represent all of society, not just their own community. And you can't do that if you keep them siloed up in their cliques. Omar and Tlaib are now accountable in a way they weren't before. That's a good thing. /2

A democratic government under an electorate with free speech tends to have a moderating effect on elected politicians. However, in my opinion, religions should not be represented in Parliament at all.
