Particularly male religious conservatives, to varying degrees, but of all stripes, are scared that they don't have adult self control around them, sexist enough to believe they can make up this deficit through law, & annoyed that their owners have the self respect that they do.

Religion is a collective ideology. Similar to socialism, it sees everything and everyone as belonging to the collective society. Like a muslim thinks they have collective ownership of all womens reproductive parts. This is why women have the most freedom in capitalist countries.
