She is held hostage by a terrorist state. Right now the only thing you can do is put pressure on the government to not give into the demands of the citizens (I know, very undemocratic) but you need to understand, we are not dealing with civilized people here.

I don't think it can be done at the grassroots level from the outside. The women of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia could rise up. Or a country like Canada could lead the way and ends all business with them until human rights issues are reformed. Somehow, it must end.

It only ends when these countries are democratic and have laws protecting women, which in turn gives women social mobility and freedom to work, earn and live away from abusive male figures in the households. This problem doesn't exist in a vacuum.
