Digital rallying points are underrated and can shift the chess pieces of entire governments and ideologies for better or worse. There is massive opportunity at the moment. What we do with it in the next decade matters.

That’s the topic of @SamHarrisOrg latest podcast! I haven’t finished listening to it all, but so far the focus has been on ppl using it for negative means/manipulation. But of course it has the power to do the opposite too.

Like many innovations it's morally neutral but tremendously powerful. Splitting the atom releases a huge amount of energy. Learn to harness that and you can build missiles or a spaceships. Social media is analogous and it's crucial we build more spaceships.

The harnessing we need though is not of the tool but how we sift through the information we glean from social media and how we react to it,

That too. This beast is a maze full of potholes and trap doors and quicksand that we have to navigate Indiana Jones style... but it "can" be worth it.
