The Thai authorities also have an abysmal human rights record. They are always more interested in saving face and upholding the 'sanook'/smiling Kingdom facade than actually protecting civil liberties. We need to be patient and see if they will really walk the talk.

This is hopeful but it still remains to be seen what the ultimate outcome will be. The Thais still have jurisdiction and the power.

If she's in UNHCR custody and they *still* go after her, it's a completely different ballgame. At that point, this becomes a diplomatic scandal of international proportions. That'd be an even more direct violation of their treaty responsibilities.
