Makes sense! The way I like to distinguish between the West and the Middle East is that the former often forces the hijab through coercion and social/familial pressure while the latter also carries the threat of legal action, physical violence and death.

So even while the West facilitates choice through its laws etc, there are still other measures taken by the individiual families and communities that restrict it. Coercion can be even more destructive than physical force because it gives the illusion of choice or compliance
