Imagine hearing stories from women forced to wear the hijab and thinking that the point is to tell people not to wear it. The problem isn't the hijab- at least not to most. The problem is the fact that women have no choice but to wear it in so many places.

To some degree, some self-deception is necessary to survive in that world. It's so dangerous to say otherwise that you have no choice but to find some way to believe it's a good thing, and that opponents are just as bad or worse. It's still pitiable, even if they reinforce it.
