My first wife was Lebanese. Beirut was indeed Paris of the Middle East. It brings to me to tears to see what the fundamentalists have destroyed.
I’m not old enough to remember but I’ve heard many stories, my dad had a Lebanese girlfriend that would tell me stories and I also learned from Gad Assad and Brigette Gabriel 
That is the truly sad part. For those born after the civil war and the Iranian revolution , all they have known is the oppression of the fundamentalists. I knew a much different kind of Islam and enjoyed many a fine night in the Syrian club in Montreal.
