However, what I've noticed is that even the nominal Muslims who drink/have sex/use drugs are still subject to extremist influence. They will still attack those who "offend" Islam, for instance, and discriminate against the LGBT community.

I know it's bad, but it's also *hilarious*. Before I met my bf, there was a Muslim guy who sent me a string of violent of messages -- on Grindr! 
My bio included "whiskey-drinker", and he told me I should be ashamed. The irony of him condemning me via Grindr didn't strike him.
