Same with my Christian faith. Sometimes we’d look at a sunset and say, isn’t god amazing? But mostly I was coasting, unable to truly explore and enjoy art, literature, music, sex, food, anything, because any excess of please was unseemly, and anyway “this world is not my home”.

The Christians I know are some of the most fully engaged, dynamic and appreciative people, definitely not coasting, serving their fellow man in creative ways not limited to evangelism.

#WhenIWasAMuslim I had no compassion toward non-muslims I used to think they were useless creatures so me and my family were happy when we saw the news about 9/11 those innocent people who died in the twin towers. As an atheist now I strongly regret feeling like that in the past. - 6 more replies

#WhenIWasAMuslim I was taught to not consider anyone else other than a muslim as one of us. To not even participate in any unislamic activity (as far as not even wishing someone happy bday), give all (money, self respect, feelings and appreciation) to Allah and ask no questions - 1 more reply

This is how they keep people repressed; make them accept their lot in life. They'll receive their "reward" in the hereafter. I'm just about convinced that some of these religious leaders don't believe half of it; it's simply a means to an end. Control.

It hurts my soul to read what you went through but I appreciate you being at a place where you can speak freely about it and be free of it all
