      It’s always oppression, even when a woman chooses it. I used to think otherwise, but the reasoning they use to claim that choice is based on cultural and religious norms that are oppressive in their own right.

          And it is my understanding that the practice came from the Turkish Empire, and not from the original form of Islam. Can you confirm?

          The face veil and hijab are both mentioned in the Quran and the book of Hadith. Nothing to do with the Turkish empire.
