People have used their religion to suppress the rights and to justify cruelty to those who do not share their beliefs. Is there something unique to Islam that makes it worse than others? Are we seeing Islam, or are we seeing bad people misuse Islam? This is not rhetorical.
It’s best to answer that question for yourself. Go to http://Quran.com and scroll through. Judge for yourself if all the Muslim countries/scholars/Sharia lawmakers are all just completely misinterpreting their religion.

They misinterpret certain Quranic verses to pursue their socio-political vested interests. Ignorance of true Quranic teachings is what brought ruin to the Muslim countries.
