Great podcast. Only disagreement is Jon saying that if a online mob calls for someone’s firing that should never happen. A firing should be based on evidence. If someone committed a firing offense than they should be fired regardless of online mob or lack there of.
I liked Sam’s response, but I get Jon’s point. The aim is to not reward the mob w what they want. Instead, we should listen/assess and act accordingly, not just react. But yes, I disagree w the blanket ‘if you mob we won’t fire’. I think it should be case by case.

Jon is in academia & has heterodox opinions which have caused him problems. I am sure this issue is very personal for him. I have no doubt that sometimes he feels the mob closing in on his doorstep with pitchforks & torches in hand with no desire for a rational conversation.
