No, you've still misunderstood. I'm not entering that debate: I'm purely talking about racists who try and downgrade racism to religious intolerance by saying x or y ethnicity is not a race, therefore not racism. It's always a racist move.

You’re confused, David. Just because Jews consider themselves an ethnicity as well as a religion...doesn’t mean the rest of us do. Muslims come from all races, hundreds of different countries/ethnicities. Lots of ppl from those countries are NOT Muslim. Stop conflating the two.

I accept your experience of course Yasmin. But I don't think that was my point: which was that in my experience people who say the words "x minority is not a race therefore y bit of hate-speech can't be racist" are inevitably, racists.

My point was really not related to the wider discussion about the burqa, although obviously loads of people on here used it as a jumping-off point for that.

You may think it is bigoted, but he is correct in that it isn't racist. Criticizing an idea is not racist or even bigoted. Saying all followers of that idea are bad is the bigoted statement.

Yes, obviously bigotry exists. But this is not an example of bigotry. You must understand, when you’re responding to a segment where the topic is the mocking of niqab-of course ppl will think that your argument is related. Mocking extremist Islamic clothing=/= Mocking Muslims.

Perhaps this might help with my position as to whether comedy is allowed in this arena (I wrote this musical):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTs8oXacWvk …

Ok, #1, that was so awesome

Everything. The music, the singing, the dancing, the lyrics
#2, why is it ok to say niqabis look like “a big black tent” or “a bat” but saying they look like “a letterbox” is racist?4 replies 1 retweet 16 likes -

1. Thanks 2. I didn't say it was, I was commenting purely on the phrase x or y isn't a race therefore what was said can't be racist. And one difference, possibly, is the fact that one of the women singing this song is Muslim.

Your mistake then, was using this incident as an example to make your point. It was a very bad ex and it does not make your point. There are ample opportunities to make that point, but you’d lose out on the virtue signaling points for jumping on the ‘Boris is racist’ bandwagon

Or perhaps your mistake for assuming my point was something it wasn't, a point perhaps you assumed I was making so you could make yours. Happens a lot. But all best to you, D.
