My theory is that it’s to keep the ummah all in unison,like soldiers. Mohammed was a warmonger after all and a huge focus of Islam is conquest. Even Islam's most highly regarded sports (archery, swimming and riding) suggest military purpose. A believer friend told me theyre highly regarded due to cgaracter building. I cant help but think in muhammed's time this meant easily mustered armies if one got destroyed.

Even Ramadan is said to have arisen for this reason. Soldiers kept leaving the battlefield because they were hungry. So now they weren’t allowed to eat from sunrise to sunset in Ramadan- hence why most battles were fought in Ramadan.
