A huge number (if not the majority) of Arabs from the GCC are incredibly dependent on their ‘nannies’ as they call them in English (‘servants’ the translation of what they call them in Arabic). They workers are notoriously mistreated/abused. Their wages are withheld as punishment

The workers are essentially purchased from their home countries -quite often they don’t get paid until the sponsor/employer recoups the cost of the sponsorship and flight. Their passports are withheld so they don’t escape back home.

When you point out the abhorrent human rights abuses to them they say ‘well, they knew the deal and they still chose to come. It’s still better than the way they live in their home countries’. That’s how they justify it.

And it’s true. A lot of the workers come from desolate circumstances so they go to the GCC in search of good wages to support themselves and (most often)send back money to support the rest of their family.

This woman’s sentiments re a day off and withholding the passport are normal/typical/common sentiments. The abuse of workers is also common. They are essentially treated as slaves or, at best, like a second-class ppl (they’re not citizens-citizenship for them is not an option).

I gather that this is standard for Gulf Arab women who are citizens. I recall when Iraq invaded Kuwait, the native Kuwaitis fled in private aircraft, leaving foreign workers to bear the brunt of the invasion...

It is the standard. They have so much money and ppl to do everything for them-it’s like they choose to be dependent. They choose to handicap themselves.

On the other side of the spectrum is my 5 year old daughter who just announced she’s moving to Hawaii to train dolphins. And she’s taking the cat with her.

My stepmother didn’t know how to do anything when she married dad. So she tried to copy things and ended up ironing & folding dad’s shirts like this.

Where was she from? I keep getting snippets of info about your stepmom. She seems like an interesting, yet horrible, person.
